Abstract: The lead article, Land as Investment, by Francis X. Hezel, S.J., frames land as a resource that should be productively used rather than left idle. Drawing comparisons with biblical parables, it discusses traditional patterns of land use in Pohnpei and Chuuk, and the ways in which economic pressures are reshaping expectations about land as an asset.
Additional sections highlight the tensions between customary obligations in Yap, the need for agricultural development in Kosrae, and debates in the Marshall Islands over whether land should serve primarily as family heritage or as a basis for modern economic growth.
