Category:Micronesian Seminar
Micronesian Seminar (MicSem) was a Jesuit-founded research and education institute established in Pohnpei in 1972 by Fr. Francis X. Hezel, SJ.
Originally a Catholic pastoral program, it grew into a leading regional center for documenting and analyzing Micronesian history, culture, and social change. MicSem produced influential publications like The Micronesian Counselor, made documentaries, hosted workshops, and built a large library and archive—much of which is now digitized on micsem.org. In the mid-2020s, the physical collection was relocated to Yap, reorganized, revitalized, and reopened to the public, ensuring continued access to one of the region’s most significant cultural resources.
