Abstract: The lead article, Micronesians Abroad, by Francis X. Hezel, S.J. and Eugenia Samuel, surveys the scale of out-migration from the FSM, the Marshall Islands, and Palau. It notes that more than 60,000 Micronesians live in the U.S. and its territories, drawn by education opportunities, employment, and family connections. The essay traces the history of migration since the 1950s and examines how access to Pell Grants and Compact rights accelerated departures.

Additional sections describe Palauan community organizations on Guam, migrant enclaves from Chuuk and Pohnpei in Hawai‘i and the mainland U.S., and the economic role of remittances in supporting families back home. The issue also discusses challenges such as cultural adjustment, intergenerational tensions, and the social impact of losing a significant share of the working-age population.
