Classification and relationships

Tabelang is classified within the Yapese system of ranked villages associated with Tabinaw as a Caste III, Class 8 (III–8–A) village, placing it within the lowest tier of the traditional hierarchy.

In Fanif political structure, Tabelang is identified as a milingay village and was under the authority of Rang, which exercised suwon (controlling rights) over it. This relationship reflects a system in which higher-ranking villages directed land use and political authority in lower-ranking settlements.
