Micronesian Reporter 1957 V05 03. Micronesian Reporter (Report). Hagåtña, Guam: Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. May 1957. p. 31.

Abstract: Beginning in 1951, the Headquarters for the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI) regularly published a magazine that detailed its work in the region. From 1951 through the first issue of 1956, the magazine was known as the Micronesian Monthly; from the second issue of 1956 through the end of the run in 1980, it was known as the Micronesian Reporter. From 1951 through December 1967, publication cycles varied: For the most part, the magazine was produced monthly, though certain issues cover two or more months. Starting in 1968, the magazine was formally shifted to a quarterly publication cycle, which continued through the first quarter of 1980, when publication ceased.

The May–June 1957 issue focuses on agricultural development and governance across the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. From its base in Agana, Guam, the publication emphasizes efforts to modernize food production while balancing the realities of scattered islands and limited infrastructure. The tone conveys both optimism about new programs and caution over the challenges of implementation.

Major articles cover the opening of the Ponape Agricultural Station, a conference of agronomists from Truk (Chuuk), Palau, and the Marshalls, and plans to expand experimental farms on Kosrae and Yap. A special report highlights the copra trade, citing production statistics from Jaluit, Majuro, and Rongelap. Additional pieces describe improved shipping schedules for the Caroline Maru and the role of Guam in coordinating regional medical supplies.

The issue references High Commissioner Delmas H. Nucker, District Administrator Howard Rice, and Dr. Paul Wilson of Ponape. It also notes participation from the Trust Territory Department of Agriculture, village councils, Catholic mission schools, and the United Nations Visiting Mission, reflecting the variety of institutions shaping Micronesia’s mid-century development.
