Abstract: Focuses on the upgrade of cell sites in Yap State within the Federated States of Micronesia. This upgrade aims to enhance telecommunications infrastructure on the main island and outlying islands such as Ulithi, Woleai, and Fais, with an allocated budget of $600,000.00. The funding, appropriated under Public Law 20-141, must be expended by September 30, 2024, or any remaining balance will revert to the FSM Trust Fund - Yap State Sub-Account. This project is intended to augment the cellular signal and strength, thereby improving the communication experience for the community.
The Yap State Cell Sites Upgrade is part of a larger project that aligns with national development goals. It seeks to support economic growth, improve infrastructure, and provide reliable and faster internet services. The project involves the procurement of equipment, installation, and upgrading of cellular networks to 3G/4G capabilities. The FSM Telecommunications Corporation (FSMTC) will oversee the implementation, with the technical team responsible for the project’s operations and maintenance post-completion. Shipping constraints are noted due to the bulk of materials requiring sea freight, which could take over three weeks.
Overall, the upgrade will fulfill a part of the national ICT policy by enhancing ICT infrastructure and communications in FSM, contributing to economic and social development. The project involves various stages, including receiving equipment, installation, and testing, estimated to occur over several weeks.
