Abstract: Welcome and overview of yap district created to orient coast guard personnel posted at the LORAN navigation station on yap. Yap district consists of the Yap islands and the string of coral islands stretching about 700 miles eastward as far as Satawal. Yap, Proper (located 450 miles southwest of Guam) is made up of four major islands separated by narrow passages, and surrounded by a fringe like reef. the total land area of Yap Proper, is approximately 38,7 square miles. a series of hills, the highest only 585 feet, divides the east coast of Yap, Proper from the west, the south end flattens into a fertile plain. Roads extend from the north to the south end of the main island but rains and ruts make them difficult to travel during a good part of the year.
