Abstract: Serphina Ililau of Falalop Island in the Ulithi Atoll, an Outer Island of Yap, interviewed on Falalop by Modesta Tauwl about backstrap weaving in the Outer Islands of Yap, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) in June of 2022. The interviewee discussed differences in weaving in the past vs. today, local fibers, differences in weaving patterns, and the role of mentorship and culture in the transmission of weaving skills. The interview is conducted in the Ulithian language.
