Diplomatic tensions between the United States and Japan concerning the control of the Island of Yap after World War I. This controversy was a significant issue during the negotiations of the Treaty of Versailles, as both nations recognized the strategic importance of Yap in the Pacific, particularly for its potential as a telecommunication hub.
