Abstract: Detailed account of Captain Arellano’s round-trip voyage in the patache San Lucas, as part of an expedition led by Legazpi. The voyage includes various encounters with islands and their inhabitants, challenges with navigation, unfavorable weather conditions, and the diplomatic and contentious interactions with the native people they met along the way. Despite hopes to reunite with the fleet, thick fog and obscurity made it difficult to do so, leading them to explore islands like Dos Vecinos and Lib.

The narrative details several dangerous situations due to strong winds, damaged equipment, and difficult to navigate waters, which sometimes necessitated quick decisions to prevent disasters like running aground or losing crucial equipment.

The document also describes cultural encounters, situations of perceived hostility, and mistrust with the islanders, sometimes resulting in tense exchanges or hasty departures. The crew faced logistical difficulties, such as lack of supplies and maladies among the sailors, which compounded the challenge of navigating unknown territories without a clear idea of the fleet’s location.

There are also sections concerning the administrative and legal challenges following the voyage. Disputes over proceedings and the handling of duties between various parties, including complaints by Gabriel Diaz on the lack of resolution of certain grievances and the failure to subject certain individuals to due process, are detailed, pointing to post-voyage controversies regarding the expedition’s outcomes.
