Abstract: PRC Government press release praising Chinese President Xi Jinping's meeting with Wesley W. Simina, the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, during Simina's state visit to China in April 2024. During their talks, Xi expressed China's willingness to cooperate with Micronesia in infrastructure development and to provide assistance in tackling climate change. This meeting coincides with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Micronesia, and Xi emphasized the importance of deepening this relationship through the Belt and Road Initiative and partnerships in culture, health, education, and other sectors.

Xi also affirmed China's support for Micronesia’s national sovereignty and independence, encouraging Micronesia to choose its own development path while revitalizing its economy . Both leaders agreed that cooperation should extend within the frameworks of the United Nations and the Pacific Islands Forum, supporting multilateralism and regional development.

Simina acknowledged China's assistance over the years and expressed a willingness to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture and the digital economy, under the Belt and Road Initiative. He also reiterated Micronesia's support for China's core interests on matters such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang. After their discussions, the two presidents witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation agreements relating to infrastructure, green development, and other fields.
