Abstract: The area of the Pacific still known as the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI) is also part of Micronesia. Total population size was 89,940 in 1970 and grew to 120,520 in 1980. In 1973 over 47% of the population was under age 15 and 72% of all females were under age 30, representing extremely high fecundity and shown in the high birth rate (31.1/1000 in 1977). The population of Palau which consists of 200 islands was 14,800 in 1980, growing at a rate of 3% annually. In 1978 the government started its immediate population education objectives to identify population-related problems through a survey, to make leaders aware of the population factor through a seminar held in 1982, to enrich school curriculum with population education, and to provide a forum for magistrates to discuss population problems. In the Federated States of Micronesia the mid 1980 population and a national seminar on population education, and development of population education instructional materials. In the Marshall Islands with a population of 29,670 project activities include: 1) seminar on population education in July 1982 with 25 policy and decision makers to discuss population education, and a parallel seminar for education officials and selected teachers; 2) developing prototype criteria; 3) seminar on population education for local leaders; and 4) experimental trial use and evaluation workshop for the educational materials.
