Abstract: Treatise on Pacific cartography produced in the mid-1570s, examining maps that recorded recent Spanish voyages across the ocean. The work shows the growing accuracy of navigation routes linking New Spain, the Mariana Islands, and the Philippines, with particular attention to latitude, prevailing winds, and ocean currents. It notes islands added to charts as a result of the Mendaña and Legazpi expeditions, while also highlighting errors that persisted, such as misplaced coastlines and speculative landmasses. The text underscores the value of cartography as a tool for imperial control, allowing the Crown to claim discoveries, plan settlements, and monitor Portuguese rivals.
