Abstract: Summary of the bloody mutiny aboard the San Jeronimo, by Fr. Juan de la Concepción” recounts a violent uprising during the 1566 mission sent from Acapulco to Zebu to announce the arrival of the flagship San Pedro. Commanded by Pedro Sánchez Pericón, with Juan Ortiz de Mosquera as second-in-command and Lope Martín as pilot, the ship became a stage for escalating tensions. Conspiracy between Martín and Mosquera culminated in the murders of Captain Pericón and his son and the seizure of the vessel.

After the takeover, divisions among the conspirators deepened: Mosquera was executed, Martín briefly held command, and was then overthrown by Rodrigo del Angle and loyalists, who brought the San Jeronimo back to Zebu with most of the crew. In response, General Miguel López de Legazpi executed principal offenders (including notary Juan de Zaldívar), rewarded loyal crew members, and issued a general pardon to minor participants.
