Abstract: Account of the voyage of Father Martín Ignacio de Loyola, O.F.M., circumnavigating the globe in 1581. Traveling westward, his route passed through Guam and the Philippines before continuing to Europe. Loyola records impressions of the Ladrones (”Mariana Islands”), noting the people’s reliance on coconuts and rice, their canoes, and their reception of foreigners. His account describes missionary efforts, challenges of navigation, and the hardships of long voyages, while presenting the journey as a testimony to Spain’s global reach and the Franciscan mission.
