Abstract: There appeared recently in the pages of this journal, an article describing in uniformly critical terms the work of Naval Military Government on Truk (Chuuk). This was a standard “military mind” piece and, except for introduction and summary, was episodic in nature. Each episode purported to illustrate the inflexible and prejudiced attitude of American military personnel in dealing with the problems of (in this case) the Trukese.
