Kuop

Kuop is an atoll in the Central Caroline Islands.

Alternative spellings and historic names include: Coup, Kimisbima, Kunto, Kuwopw, Leot, Neewoc, Palapi, Penepi, Royalist, and Royal

Kuop is small atoll was ordinarily classed as one of the Chuuk Lagoon Islands, the outer coral ring of which lies only two miles to the north across a channel of deep water. It is rectangular in shape, eleven miles in length (NW-SE) by four miles in breadth, and has four low coral islets. The lagoon has passages in the north, west and south.

Kuop was probably discovered by the Spanish explorer Spaniard Alonso de Arellano in 1565.

Kuop is a part of the Group of Islands and Atolls that comprise the Faichuk within the Chuuk Lagoon, which is part of Chuuk State in the Federated States of Micronesia.

Kuop is owned by, but located outside of, Uman.
