FAS

From Habele Institute

The Freely Associated States, or "FAS," are the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Each has signed a Compact of Free Association, or "COFA," with the United States. The agreements provide for sustained economic assistance, services cooperation, defense rights and responsibilities, and migration.

The three nations, along with what is now the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, together comprised the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI) before that United Nations sanctioned Strategic Territory Trusteeship ended.
