Abstract: Letter from Miguel López de Legazpi to the King, written from Cebu in July 1567. He reports on the arrival of the San Jeronimo from New Spain in a weakened state after mutiny and killings on board, which left the colony without the aid or supplies expected. Legazpi stresses the hardships endured by his men, prohibited from waging war or raiding the natives, and notes their continued loyalty despite treacherous plots. He describes discoveries of nearby islands, some with gold and cinnamon, and emphasizes the potential for conversion and settlement. He requests more settlers, married men, and artisans to build galleys, warning that Portuguese fleets have already appeared in nearby waters. He also highlights the importance of Luzon and Bindoro for trade with Chinese and Japanese merchants, who exchange silk, porcelain, iron, and other goods for local products like gold and wax
