Abstract: A letter from Legazpi to the King, dated May 26, 1563. In this letter, Legazpi communicates that the Viceroy of New Spain appointed him, not because of his merits, but for his willingness and spirit to serve in the voyage to the Western Islands. He emphasizes his commitment to this expedition and mentions that he has requested certain supplies and support from the Viceroy to ensure the voyage’s success. Legazpi makes these requests not as a reward for his service, but as a gesture of the King’s customary generosity in acknowledging significant contributions by his servants.
