Abstract: KPress Vol. 14 Iss. 17: NEWS: This issue reports on remarks by Ambassador Rosen emphasizing democratic governance and the necessity of compromise among political parties; it covers President Manny Mori’s line-item veto of a $5.1 million public projects and social programs bill, in which he approved only $260,000 while sharply criticizing Congress for what he described as unplanned, non-transparent appropriations and a double standard in hearings, before Congress subsequently overrode the veto during a special session; the issue also examines President Mori’s veto of the Telecommunications “Open Access Entity” Act, citing concerns about the cost and readiness of a new entity to manage fiber-optic connectivity; additional coverage highlights the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) recognition of educational efforts by the Chuuk Women’s Council; and it features the work of the Migrant Resource Center–Micronesia in Pohnpei, which provides pre-departure orientation for students bound for Hawaiʻi and conducts anti-human-trafficking awareness training, reporting that since its founding in 2013 it has reached thousands of high school students, civil society members, women, youth, NGO representatives, and persons with disabilities across the FSM.
