Abstract: This document presents a letter from Fray Juan López, Bishop of the Holy Name of Jesus in Cebu, to Father Diego Luis de San Vitores, dated Cebu, 24 May 1667. The bishop recounts his recent encounter with the inhabitants of the Islands of the Ladrones during a voyage from Spain, describing them as rational and well disposed to receive Christian teaching but long deprived of ministers and instruction. He interprets prior neglect as a matter of providential timing and expresses confidence that the moment for evangelization has arrived. He grants the requested license for the mission, pledges his assistance and advocacy, and promises daily prayers and sacrifices for the success of the endeavor, the health of San Vitores and his companions, and the advancement of the faith and the Church. The piece includes the original Spanish text and an English translation by Father Ledesma.
