Abstract: KPress Vol. 08 Iss. 18: NEWS: FSM national leaders and Compact implementation officials outlined preparations for the upcoming Compact of Free Association review, presenting assessments of sector-grant performance, Trust Fund projections, and anticipated policy adjustments following the 2004–2008 implementation period; President Emanuel “Manny” Mori and FSM economic advisers discussed long-term fiscal sustainability and infrastructure priorities in advance of the scheduled 2009 review, emphasizing the need to align public investment with future Compact funding realities; financial reporting notes that the FSM Development Bank and state officials reviewed lending activity and identified challenges facing small-business development amid rising fuel and food costs; education coverage reports that regional officials raised concerns about enrollment pressures and funding constraints at the College of Micronesia–FSM as Compact sector allocations tighten; security and governance reporting notes that FSM and U.S. officials reviewed ongoing security cooperation and law-enforcement coordination under existing bilateral agreements.
