44th Yap Day Annual Celebration Program (Report). Colonia, Yap: Yap Day Organizing Committee. March 2012.

Abstract: An official program booklet for the 44th Yap Day Annual Celebration held in March 2012 at the Yap Living History Museum in Yap State, Federated States of Micronesia; includes opening ceremonies featuring traditional leadership and remarks by the Governor, followed by extensive cultural demonstrations including rope making, canoe traditions, basket weaving, fish trap construction, coconut processing, and traditional dances across multiple municipalities; outlines community participation from local organizations including youth groups, women’s associations, and cultural preservation entities, alongside competitions, traditional sports, and educational activities. This document provides a cultural baseline of Yapese society at the time immediately preceding and during the ETG development negotiations, illustrating the depth of traditional practices and community cohesion that would later be cited as being at risk; it helps contextualize opposition arguments by showing the lived cultural systems—land, tradition, and social organization—that the ETG project was perceived to threaten.
