Abstract: This document records the steps taken in response to the royal decree of 1 July 1677 concerning support for the Mariana Mission and a mission boat. It includes Fr. Bartolomé Besco’s report on mission needs, the survey of Umatac Bay by Governor Juan de Vargas Hurtado and pilots aboard the San Telmo, and Governor Vargas’s instruction for the government and military administration of the Mariana Islands.
