Abstract: This paper analyzes how the Japanese employed the Micronesian people as a labor force from 1922-1945. The discussion centers around a comparison between Japan's performance and the international laws regarding the use and treatment of labor. For areas where data are lacking, this paper addresses the issue as best as possible in the hopes that future researchers will be able to fill in the gaps. The ultimate objective of this research is to bring to the fore the issue of Japan's use and treatment of the Micronesian people as a labor force, and to inform readers that even though more than 50 years have passed since World War II, some issues are still outstanding and are ripe for discussion.
