Abstract: KPress Vol. 12 Iss. 24: NEWS: Palikir, Pohnpei—FSM National Police officers were recognized with medals honoring years of service and performance, as the FSM convened a high-level Development Partners Forum with financial support from AusAID, led by President Manny Mori and attended by national and state leaders alongside international partners including the Asian Development Bank, Australia, China, the European Union, FAO, and the Forum Fisheries Agency, as well as FSM private-sector and civil-society representatives; FSM presentations outlined economic developments since independence and priority areas to spur growth—enhancing agricultural production and value-added processing, maximizing fisheries benefits and aquaculture, improving tourism products and service quality, and expanding clean, renewable energy to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels—while also briefing partners on health and education priorities and environmental management needs such as solid waste management, inshore marine ecosystems and coastal fisheries, environmental planning and impact assessment, improved environmental governance, mainstreaming climate change into sectoral planning, and financing adaptation projects; the FSM further noted progress toward an Overseas Development Assistance policy, while development partners acknowledged the scale of the fiscal adjustment facing the nation, emphasized the need to balance expenditure and revenue measures, supported macroeconomic stability initiatives including the Long-Term Fiscal Framework and tax reform package, and underscored the importance of human resources development and improved coordination among partners and FSM stakeholders; OPINION / EDITORIAL: commentary references audit critiques regarding corrective action planning and internal controls and includes ancillary civic content.
