Abstract: KPress Vol. 14 Iss. 16: NEWS: This issue reports on celebrations by the Filipino Community of Pohnpei marking the 116th anniversary of Philippine independence, highlighting strong community participation and cultural programming; it also covers international recognition of the Federated States of Micronesia’s climate leadership, as the FSM Congress received a GLOBE award in Mexico City for its Climate Change Act during the Second World Summit of Legislators attended by representatives from more than seventy parliaments, with Speaker Dohsis Halbert and other FSM lawmakers present; the award, presented by GLOBE International, recognized the FSM as the sole country recipient and underscored the significance of collective legislative leadership in addressing climate change, poverty, and the unsustainable use of natural resources; FSM representatives noted that the recognition also reflected the country’s direct experience with climate impacts alongside its landmark legislation, and the issue situates the award within the broader context of FSM participation in international climate and legislative forums during 2014.
