Abstract: KPress Vol. 12 Iss. 14: NEWS: The FSM marked a historic milestone with an inaugural direct “Friendship Flight” from Tokyo to Pohnpei carrying approximately 120 passengers, celebrated as a landmark in Japan–FSM relations and warmly received with cultural performances, community events at the Spanish Wall, and expressions of gratitude emphasizing enduring bonds of “kizuna,” while Japanese visitors reported strong satisfaction and intentions to return; governance and human-rights reporting covers the U.S. State Department’s 2012 Trafficking in Persons Report, which placed the FSM on the Tier 2 Watch List—the highest ranking it has achieved—acknowledging accession to the UN Trafficking in Persons Protocol and passage of a new TIP law prescribing severe penalties, while also criticizing the lack of prosecutions, victim identification, and prevention efforts in 2011 and citing prior convictions of FSM citizens abroad, including a high-profile case in Washington State and the conviction of Song Ja Cha in Guam; the report outlined recommendations for the FSM to strengthen investigations, prosecutions, victim protection, and public awareness to combat human trafficking; OPINION / EDITORIAL: commentary reflects on freedom of expression as a cornerstone of democratic society, references technical and renewable-energy expertise presented in proposal materials, and anticipates public reaction to forthright editorial perspectives.
