Abstract: KPress Vol. 14 Iss. 05: NEWS: This issue reports on the grounding of the Kiribati-flagged reefer Ping Da 7 on the Kepikepin Parem reefs on December 11, prompting Pohnpei Governor John Ehsa to declare a state of emergency as the vessel was confirmed to be carrying approximately 737 metric tons of diesel fuel, with Pohnpei State and FSM National Governments forming joint task forces to address environmental, safety, and response challenges that intensified as the situation developed; it covers the presentation of credentials by Australia’s new Ambassador to the FSM and the strengthening of diplomatic relations; it details the People’s Republic of China stepping forward as the first major donor for the 2014 Micronesia Games in Pohnpei, with funds directed toward stadium seating and repairs to gymnasium flooring; it highlights a large Christmas celebration for Pohnpei senior citizens organized under a community support and outreach program, during which thousands of donated gifts and cash-value cards were distributed; and it reports on Incident Safety Officer training conducted in Pohnpei for staff of the Pohnpei and Marshall Islands Port Authorities at the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Center, aimed at improving safety preparedness and emergency response capacity.
