Abstract: KPress Vol. 15 Iss. 14: NEWS: Memorial Day commemorations in Pohnpei honoring FSM citizens who served and died in U.S. military service, including a ceremony hosted by the United States Embassy at Pohnpei International Airport with remarks by Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs Samson Pretrick, U.S. Ambassador Doria Rosen reflecting on the meaning of Memorial Day, and FSM Veterans Association President Benito Cantero, accompanied by performances from the Youth 4 Change Choir and displays of photographs of fallen soldiers; announcement of the inauguration of the nation’s leadership scheduled for July 10, with FSM Congress Speaker Wesley Simina postponing a congressional morning session to allow senators to attend; completion of the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting in Fukushima, Japan, with disaster risk reduction emphasized in discussions with Prime Minister Abe, Forum Leaders supporting Japan’s proposal to establish World Tsunami Day on 5 November 2015 and welcoming Japanese support for national, sub-regional, and regional disaster risk reduction efforts, as well as bilateral meetings between President Christian and the Prime Minister of Japan and keynote remarks delivered during the opening session of PALM 7; release of the FSM Family Health and Safety Study quantifying violence against women for the first time at a national level; reporting on candidates for the July 1, 2015 Special Election in Pohnpei State and Kosrae State; coverage of local sporting and community activities including anglers landing large fish during the Pohnpei Fishing Club’s Annual Tournament.
