Abstract: An exploration of the megalithic structures found on the islands of Kusaie (Kosrae) and Ponape (Pohnpei). These structures are noted for their remarkable scale and are believed to have been built when the islands were more elevated above sea level. Subsequent subsidence has led to parts of these structures being submerged, transforming some areas into water villages.
The paper discusses the structures' purposes, noting that they involve different configurations and arrangements possibly related to fortresses, burial sites, and other communal living areas. The structures and the artifacts discovered suggest a shared culture or influences with other islands, as they sometimes deviate from Polynesian styles. Additionally, certain sites around Nan Madol are highlighted for their grandeur, indicating their central importance among the ruins. Comprehensive studies are encouraged, considering the historical and cultural significance of these ancient constructions.
