Abstract: A letter from King Philip II of Spain to Fray Andrés de Urdaneta, dated March 4, 1561, in Aranjuez. In the letter, the King acknowledges receipt of Urdaneta’s letter dated May 28, 1560, in which Urdaneta expressed his willingness to participate in an expedition to the Islands of the West. The King thanks Urdaneta for his readiness to undertake this mission, viewing it as a service to God and the Crown. The King ensures that Urdaneta’s contributions will be recognized and compensated. He instructs Urdaneta to proceed with the voyage, placing trust in his religious commitment and kindness. The advice Urdaneta provided has been forwarded to Don Luis de Velasco, the Viceroy of New Spain, for further action as per the King’s orders.
