Abstract: Documents 1684K contains Fr. Gerardo Bouwens' advice to Governor Damian de Esplana during and after the 1684 revolt. The first petition asks for precautions, moderated treatment of troops, reduced labor demands, and firearms training while the missionaries and soldiers were under siege in Fort Guadalupe. The later letter addresses proposed negotiations with Asan and Anigua, return of weapons and fugitives, church valuables, peace terms, and possible military action.
