Abstract: Written from Rota to Fr. Luis de Medina on Tinian, this brief and cryptic letter refers to Spanish escorts, indigenous intermediaries such as Si Bachi and Nonohot, and an effort at peace-making during a period of rising tension in the mission field. Despite its obscure phrasing, it is an important witness to the militarized and diplomatic dimensions of San Vitores’s late-1669 movements in the Marianas.
