Abstract: KPress Vol. 07 Iss. 06: NEWS: Long-term residents of Palikir report the apparent disappearance of the Kiriedleng River, raising concerns that water has been diverted to supply public utility infrastructure, with the riverbed found dried, cracked, and littered with decaying aquatic life and accumulated waste; environmental reporting links reduced surface water flows to drought conditions associated with El Niño patterns, despite historically high rainfall in Pohnpei; researchers from the Water and Environmental Research Institute of the University of Guam provide hydrological context, noting altered rainfall patterns and watershed conditions that may contribute to river depletion; broader concerns are raised about watershed management practices and environmental degradation affecting freshwater resources in Pohnpei.
