Abstract: KPress Vol. 16 Iss. 16: NEWS: arrest of 33 Vietnamese fishermen by the FSM National Police Maritime Wing in Chuuk waters, marking a significant enforcement action against foreign fishing activity within FSM jurisdiction; Moran Eye Clinic Outreach mission from the University of Utah conducts nearly 200 sight-restoring eye surgeries and examinations in Pohnpei during an intensive treatment week, with participation by Moran clinicians and five Mahi International volunteers, and statements by John Schroer of Mahi International noting the mission’s annual return following an initial invitation four years earlier; installation of a new Pohnpei State cabinet member and twelve board members following advice and consent of the Pohnpei State Legislature, with the swearing-in ceremony held at the Pohnpei Government Complex; decisions by the municipalities of U and Nett to ban sea cucumber harvesting within their waters until after aquaculture farming is completed, signaling heightened local fisheries conservation measures; coverage of the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps in Micronesia, including public celebrations featuring children’s activities and community events recognizing long-term volunteer engagement in the FSM.
