Abstract: Account of an embassy arriving in Manila from Japan in May 1592. The Japanese envoys sought to establish relations and demanded submission from the Spaniards. Their presence caused alarm, leading to defensive preparations and consultations between governor, officials, and clergy. The episode demonstrates both the perceived threat of Japanese power and the delicate diplomacy pursued by the Manila authorities.
