Abstract: Account of a Spanish soldier nearly abducted while ashore at Guam during the voyage of Juan López de Aguirre and Lorenzo Chacón in 1567. A young islander embraced the soldier and attempted to carry him inland until intercepted by fellow Spaniards, at which point the islander fled. Five years later, Aguirre was ordered to capture a local youth to be taught Spanish and Christianity to serve as an interpreter. The boy taken to Manila proved to be the same individual, who confessed that his earlier intent had been to kill and consume the soldier, and to fashion objects from his remains.
