Abstract: Located a little over 870 kilometers southwest of Guam is a beautiful small-island state that many people believe to be one of the places least affected by modernization in the Pacific—the island of Yap. Sometimes referred to as "the island of stone money" because of the huge pieces of circular limestone currency that can be found there, Yap is part of the island nation of the Federated States of Micronesia.
