Abstract: H.E. Mr. Jackson T. Soram serves as the Ambassador of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United States since 2024, is cross-accredited as the FSM Ambassador to the State of Israel, and is the FSM Ambassador-designate to Canada. A career diplomat with more than 20 years of experience since 2022, he has held positions within the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs including Assistant Secretary for Asia, Pacific, Africa, and Multilateral Affairs (APAMA), Deputy Assistant Secretary for Multilateral Affairs, and Deputy Assistant Secretary for European Affairs. His work has covered climate change, fisheries, human rights, food security, gender equality, oceans, and global security. He led bilateral and international meetings, and served as Head of Delegation to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, presenting the first FSM national human rights report under the Universal Periodic Review. His overseas assignments include Deputy Chief of Mission to the People’s Republic of China from 2013 to 2016 and Deputy Chief of Mission in the United States from 2017 to 2023, preceding his appointment as Ambassador to the United States. His national roles include Chairman of the FSM Board of Directors of the National Oceanic Resource Management Authority from 2013 to 2015, with responsibilities for national fisheries policy and lead negotiations on fisheries agreements with distant water fishing nations. He served as the National Correspondent to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, was a resource person to the FSM Negotiation Team for the Compact Negotiations with the United States from 2020 to 2023, and is the current Chairperson of the Working Group for the Pacific Island Conference of Leaders. His education began at Ettal Elementary School in the Mortlock Islands, continued at Xavier High School in Weno, Chuuk, and at Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu. His professional training includes the Australia National University and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research with a certificate in negotiations in international meetings, the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies on international security studies, and Pacific Island Forum Diplomatic Training in Fiji on international protocol and diplomacy. His family details list marriage to Karnim Desire Judah Soram, with four surviving children: Maverick Soram, Jordan Soram, Joshua Soram, and Naphania-Grace Soram.
