Abstract: KPress Vol. 13 Iss. 18: NEWS: Coverage highlights community, security, and connectivity developments in Pohnpei and Yap, including College of Micronesia students completing a mural for the Pohnpei Public Library, visible preparations for the upcoming Eighth Micronesia Games marked by a countdown sign and completion of a new swimming pool, and the launch of the first joint firearms training between the Pohnpei Port Authority and Pohnpei State Police, with specialists from the Guam Airport Police training officers in proper firearms handling; the issue also reports a major telecommunications development in which FSM Telecommunications Corporation signed a contingent agreement with the Google-sponsored O3b medium-earth-orbit satellite network to deliver fiber-like capacity to Yap, potentially more than doubling bandwidth and quadrupling speeds, dependent on a parallel agreement with Palau National Communications Corporation, with FSMTC noting the high current cost of satellite bandwidth, the near-term feasibility of O3b compared with fiber, positive early feedback from Cook Islands’ experience, and interest from other Pacific jurisdictions that have reserved O3b capacity.
