Abstract: Opinion column examining Guam’s evolving role as a frontline site in U.S.-China military competition. The article argues that the island’s designation as the “forward edge of the Indo-Pacific” reflects both its strategic importance and its vulnerability, as expanding missile systems and defense infrastructure increase the likelihood of Guam becoming a primary target in conflict. It critiques the reliance on complex and unproven missile defense systems and highlights the lack of civilian protection measures, arguing for greater attention to human security alongside military planning.
