Abstract: A contemporary regional business news article from October 4, 2011, reporting on a proposed tourism development by the Exhibition and Travel Group (ETG), a Chinese investor group based in Chengdu, for Yap State, Federated States of Micronesia; describes plans for up to 10 hotel complexes totaling approximately 4,000 guest rooms, alongside convention centers, casinos, entertainment facilities, and between eight and 15 golf courses; notes that Yap Governor Sebastian Anefal called for the formation of a task force including members of the Yap State Legislature and Council of Chiefs to examine land use, ownership, and development suitability. This article reflects one of the earliest public reports of the ETG proposal, presenting the project in exploratory and largely descriptive terms prior to formal agreements or organized opposition; it captures the initial framing of the development as unprecedented in scale within FSM and highlights early institutional responses focused on review rather than resistance.
