Air Micronesia, often referred to as “Air Mike,” was a regional airline established as a subsidiary of Continental Airlines. It was founded in the late 1960s and began operations in 1968. The airline was created to serve the scattered islands of Micronesia in the Pacific Ocean, providing essential connectivity between Guam, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, and other Pacific island nations.

Air Micronesia’s operations were unique due to the geographical challenges of the region, which included flying long over-water routes and landing on short runways. The airline played a crucial role in the economic development of the region by facilitating travel and transportation of goods The airline eventually operated under the Continental Micronesia brand when Continental Airlines fully integrated Air Micronesia into its operations.
